This print is a reproduction of a watercolour from the sketchbook of Edward Lear (1812 - 1888).
Famous for the "Owl and the Pussycat" and other nonsense verse in the 19th century, Edward Lear is known for popularizing the limerick while also being a prominent landscape artist and ornithologist.
The soft pastel colours and loose linework make these images lighter than air, while Lear's notations and comments add an original element.
